Senior Service Sales Engineer - Based in San Francisco Bay Area,CA or Dallas,TX Scope of Position:
Senior Service Engineer driving technical Service Sales activities in North America with frequent traveling to East Coast and Europe. Responsibilities will include coordinating and supporting the introduction of company’s eyeD expert service offering based on eyeD 360 product. The Engineer will also deliver the service in a hands-on way, by participating in qualification of the service through trials, carrying out the measurements and creating the relevant test reports for the customer. Customer interest has been fantastic and we want you to learn to understand our customer's objectives, needs and limitations, and deliver our service to help them be successful.
Activities include:
- Prepare and present in-depth and high-level technical presentations for customers and partners
- Provide technical and consulting expertise to support Sales activities
- Prepare quotations and sales documentation
- Coordinate and participate in customer lab testing and field trials
- Build the business in line with company strategy and goals
- Deliver service in field and create reports and recommendations
- Interface with Marketing and Operations to develop product enhancements to meet customer needs
Skills:
- Technical knowledge in the following areas:
• Optical transmission systems (WDM)
• Optical test and measurement
• Fiber handling and modeling
• Excellent written and verbal communication, listening and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently, add value as a team member and assume a leadership role for the team
- Travel required. Candidate must reside in the San Francisco Bay area or Dallas area, within one hour of international airport.
Education & Experience:
- 5+ years of industry experience in Telecom
- Master's degree
- Strong fiber expertise a plus

2. Senior Researcher in Machine Learning - Based in Australia - This position is in cooperation with NICT Australia and the University of Melbourne Scope of Position:
Sr. Researcher will work with mdi’s R&D team on current eyeD 360 technologies and will set the ground-work for predictive models based on real-time measurements of fiber infrastructure, historical data and fiber failure models. Responsibilities will include working with a cross-disciplinary team and generating a final report at the end of the project. The project is split in two phases:
1. Preliminary study at the current location of candidate (3 months).
2. Implementation in Melbourne, Australia (6 months).
Activities include:
- Scope research problem in coordination with research partners
- Improve feature selection methods on current software for eyeD 360
- Code implementation for server interacting with field devices
Skills:
- General statistical machine learning
- Kernel and support vector machines
- Feature selection and dimensionality reduction techniques
- Strong statistical signal processing skills
- Strong statistical signal processing skills
- Expectation maximization
- Statistical modeling (parametric and non-parametric methods)
- Travel required. Candidate must be willing to travel once in Australia in first phase of project and relocate to Melbourne, Australia for the second phase of project.
Education & Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in Machine Learning
- Master's degree a minimum, PhD preferred
- Experience in Telecommunications a plus
